A methodology for the transdisciplinary approach of the history of indigenous peoples

Research on the indigenous peoples in Brazil has been on the rise during the last thirty years, underscoring their agency rather than conditioning them as victims of historical inexorability through the invasion and occupation of their lands by occupying forces. If, on the one hand, such protagonism placed indigenous peoples as subjects of their history, on the other hand, it forwarded theoretical and methodological issues within the field of history and anthropology which are still hotly debated by researchers versed in these fields. The current paper brings to the fore an investigation on the theme of indigenous history from its North American matrix discussed since the 1953 Indigenous History Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
