This article deals with the history of a hospital complex created in the interior of the State of São Paulo, the old Sanatorium of Santa Rita do Passa Quatro and its Museum. It is intended to contribute to the understanding of the Hospital as a cultural heritage and to the reflection on the importance of preserving its memory and, therefore, its Museum. It also aims to disseminate the work already done in the sense of preservation, addressing the perspectives and challenges related to the continuity of this work. Finally, it is intended to draw attention to a growing social demand around the official recognition of the Museum by the pertinent public authorities, placing the need for the public authorities to assume their responsibilities with the preservation of this museological heritage.
