Author Biography

Sílvia Maria Azevedo, Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho

He has a BA in Literature from the University of São Paulo (1974), an MA in Literature (Portuguese Literature) from the University of São Paulo (1983) and a PhD in Literature (Literary Theory and Comparative Literature) from the University of São Paulo (1990). He is currently a Professor of Literary Theory at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho. He has experience in the field of Literature, with an emphasis on Literary Theory and Comparative Literature, working mainly on the following subjects: Machado de Assis, literature and history, images of Brazil in newspaper cartoons, scientific knowledge and the 19th century press.
