Abstract

This article discusses the forms and discourses found at the Labor Museum Michel Giacometti (Setúbal, Portugal), Central Tejo (Lisbon, Portugal) and the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (Terrassa, Barcelona) about industrialization. The three spaces are industrial museums that represent distinct sectors of the industrialization process lived in western society of the late nineteenth and early twentieth, and use different strategies, tools and approaches to present to its visitors the history of industry and industrialization. In this article I propose the analysis of three themes, within the industrialization and the museums: factory, machines and workers. The result of this proposal presents the use of an expographic discourse that values the human
question and memorial of the industrial past, from a perspective that respects the histories and identities that encompass the old factories, today museums.

Olivia Silva Nery é Doutoranda em História na Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS). Mestra em Memória Social e Patrimônio Cultural pela Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL) e Graduada em História pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (FURG).
