Abstract

Abstract: The problem that guides this work is: how does the user experience reveal the affordances related to the Valongo Wharf World Heritage Site? The article presents the concept of affordances and identifies the notion of heritage affordance. The concept of affordances represents a contribution to the field of cultural heritage. The article presents the notion of affordances based on Gibson, who first coined the term in the 1960s. Environmental affordances are what the environment offers to animals, whether for good or for bad. Heritage affordances point to the application of the term in the interdisciplinary field of Cultural Heritage. The method was a narrative review of the concept of affordances and its relationship with the field of heritage, with a qualitative and cross-sectional documentary study that used lexicometry and textual analysis with the aid of software as a data analysis strategy. The results found in 58 evaluations and comments made in the media were: Rediscovery of the Wharf; Revitalization and historical discovery; Memories of Slavery; Arrival of Slaves; Tourist Recommendations; and Arrival of Teresa Cristina and Changes in the Site.
