Abstract

The present article aims to conjecture the elements that define the relations of power in a city from the medieval Christian western. This work focuses on the 14th century, during the Late Middle Ages. We try to stand questions that crossed the constitution of medieval cities, such them collectivizes, the institution of rule, power, and the relations with the suburbs, there was about the deep relationship that exists between the city, and its rural surroundings, the most important is: to understand the powers that were bred on the villages and cities,  conjecturing if these relations were an opposite of the manorial logic, or before it, is It just an extension of that? The present article also gives examples about these questions by an “analysis of a case”, based on an analysis of urban rules produced in the city of Evora, in the Kingdom of Portugal, in the second half of the 14th century. Bringing up the materialization of these theoretical aspects around the cities, based on an approach to the documentary source.
