analytics possibilities concerning Brazil and Egypt relations since written press (1950-1954)

Abstract

In this article we look forward to analyze sets of news found in A Tarde newspaper which contains information about diplomatic issues involving Brazil and Egypt during the first half of the 1950s. Considering that journalism, politics and history are intimately connected we will put a few investigative possibilities concerning the relation between the two countries at that time, keeping in mind the important blanks in historiography about this subject. From negotiations involving the temporary seats of the United Nations Security Council, going through the exchange of honorific gestures between chiefs of State (King Farouk I and Getúlio Vargas) and reaching Jânio Quadros' trip to the African country, the international section of the Bahian newspaper provides potential for studies about the period, showing that, even though there was no foreign policy oriented towards the Afro-Asian world, some issues regarding the relationship with Egypt help to understand the ambiguities, limitations and possible extensions of Brazil's relations outside the America - Western Europe axis.
