A Capela Sistina sob o olhar da família Della Rovere
breves reflexões sobre a encomenda dos afrescos

A Capela Sistina, um dos principais legados da família Della Rovere em Roma, constituiu o cenário de uma colaboração singular entre homens de saber, eclesiásticos e pintores durante o Renascimento. Interpretamos que, mais do que exaltar a fé ou refletir o contexto histórico de seu tempo, os afrescos do teto deram forma visual ao exercício da justiça almejado por Júlio II, o que, por sua vez, impulsionou a reputação do pintor e do mecenas por meio dessa obra. Para tanto, adotamos a proposta metodológica de análise iconográfica e iconológica formulada pelo historiador da arte alemão Erwin Panofsky (1991) para a análise da fonte.
