Abstract

We offer an overview of the first years of the occupation of the territory of the Serro do Frio mines (Vila do Príncipe, Serro/MG), the population that formed the capital of the Serro do Frio District in 1720. The study narrates the presence of two groups in the mountainous mines: the first, formed by the bidders of gold mining lands in the streams and the second formed by Portuguese emigrants. The research methodology is based on bibliographic research with the construction of quantitative and analytical tables / tables and uses two important concepts, the dynamics of miscegenation’s to account for the phenomenon of sociability in the territory of the gold mines and the muddy mountainous way of be, to account for the cultural encounters that formed the 18th century mountainous civilization. The result is presented pari passu to the narrative and culminates with the notion of miscegenations dynamics and “jeito barroco serrano” of being.
